How do I claim my extra benefit?

You will receive a post card that you’ll need to take to your doctor. At the end of your prenatal visit, fill out the card and ask your doctor to sign verifying your visit. Then mail the post card, at no cost to you, to Texas Children’s Health Plan.    

How will I receive it?

You will receive your extra benefit via U.S. Mail. If you are a patient at The Center for Children and Women, you will have the option to receive your extra benefit on-site, upon completion of your prenatal visit.

Who is eligible?

This extra benefit is available to any pregnant members who complete their prenatal check-up within 42 days of enrollment with Texas Children’s Health Plan and are in the STAR, CHIP, or STAR Kids programs. 

Is this extra benefit available in my service area?

Portable Crib / Playpen

Your health is just as important as your baby’s. That’s why you must complete a postpartum visit with your provider 21 to 56 days after giving birth. When you do, we’ll send you a portable crib! A portable crib helps you make sure your baby plays and sleeps safely. 

How do I claim my extra benefit?

Infant Care / Safe Sleep Class

Explore what to expect the first few weeks at home with a newborn baby and how to care for them. Learn about infant care, proper development of your baby, sleeping habits, sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), and more.  Receive a free book upon completion of the class.

Car Seat Safety Class

CAUTION:  Baby on Board! Unfortunately, not all drivers heed this warning while on the road, placing your baby at risk of being involved in an automobile accident. Car seats are your best defense for protecting your baby if this happens. Join us to learn how to carefully read a car seat safety label, correctly install a car seat, learn appropriate positions and sizes of car seats as your child grows, and what items are safe to be around your baby while in a car seat.

Childbirth Education Class

The childbirth class prepares new mothers for the physical and emotional changes that happen during pregnancy, labor, and beyond. Soon-to-be mothers will learn about proper nutrition during pregnancy, tips on the most comfortable positions, childbirth choices, and the importance of skin-to-skin contact.

Breastfeeding Basics and Beyond Class

Come and learn about the benefits of breastfeeding for you and your baby. You will learn and discuss the common misconceptions about breastfeeding.  Learn about techniques to feed your infant and how to spot infant hunger signs.  Explore the changes your breasts will undergo and how your body will start to produce milk. Lastly, you will take a look at the role a support person will play and options for going back to work or school while breastfeeding.

Becoming a Mom Educational Class

Becoming a mom for the first time or for the fifth time can be the best experience ever. This class will help get you ready for what is to come during and after your pregnancy so you can truly enjoy this moment in your life. You will learn the signs and symptoms of pre-term labor, the birth and delivery process, the importance of postpartum care for mom and baby, and how to recognize postpartum blues and depression. Learn tips and best practices for parenting styles and communication, setting healthy boundaries, discipline, and coping with this new change in your life.

Infant CPR Training Class

Be prepared to take action! This non-certification class focuses on teaching the guidelines and techniques put forth by the American Heart Association for performing CPR and how to respond if your baby is choking and/or not responding.
