Do you want to learn how to live a healthier life?  If you or your child are 10 to 18 years old, you can sign up for our Keep Fit Program and learn fun, easy ways to stay active and make smart food choices. And it’s at no cost to you! The program offers a 10-week exercise and nutrition class, healthy cooking demos, fun exercises to do at home, quarterly newsletters, an assigned health coach, and other special activities.

How do I claim my extra benefit?

Keep Fit programs are in-person, at a variety of locations across our service areas. Registration is available for members by calling Member Services or visiting the Keep Fit website.

How will I receive it?

Upon registration, members will receive a confirmation email providing class times, locations, and how to take full advantage of all resources available through this program. 

Who is eligible?

This extra benefit is available to all members enrolled with Texas Children’s Health Plan and who are part of the Texas STAR or CHIP programs. Members should be between ages 10 and 18 with a BMI of 28 or above.

Is this extra benefit available in my service area?

Extra benefit is available to members in the Harris and Jefferson service areas.

Soccer Clinics, a partnership with the Houston Dynamo

Learn soccer from the pros!  Are you between the ages of 7 and 12 and love to play soccer? How would you like to learn new skills from professional coaches? Sign up for one of our Houston Dynamo Soccer Skills Clinic! Houston Dynamo coaches will teach you how to be a better soccer player. And you can show off your new skills with other kids your age! 

How do I claim my extra benefit?

This extra benefit will be promoted on the Texas Children’s Health Plan website, Facebook page, and via mailed post card, inviting members to register for the opportunity to participate in a Dynamo Soccer Clinic. Registration will be available through the website or by calling Member Services, and is on a first come, first served basis.

How will I receive it?

Members will receive a confirmation email informing them of the time and location of their scheduled clinic.    

Who is eligible?

This extra benefit is available to all members enrolled with Texas Children’s Health Plan and are part of the Texas STAR, CHIP, or STAR Kids programs. Members need to be between the ages of 7 and 12 to participate in this program.

Is this extra benefit available in my service area?

Extra benefit is available to members in the Harris service area.


Extracurricular Activity Fee Assistance

Texas Children’s Health Plan understands that being part of a sports/physical program can help provide children with special healthcare needs both the physical and emotion support they need. There are sports/physical programs and other extracurricular activities, like joining a local basketball team, learning to swim, the arts, or even ballet, that use adaptive techniques for boys and girls with physical and development challenges. We will offer fee assistance for any sports/physical activity or extracurricular programs available in the member’s area up to $100 per year.

How do I claim my extra benefit?

Sign your child up for a sports/physical program or extracurricular activity in your area and pay their registration/membership fees to the organization. Then mail the receipt and confirmation of registration back to Texas Children’s Health Plan for processing and reimbursement of up to $100. 

How will I receive it?

Members will receive a reimbursement check via U.S. Mail. 

Who is eligible?

This extra benefit is available to all members enrolled with Texas Children’s Health Plan and are specifically enrolled in the STAR Kids program. To qualify for this extra benefit, members should be between the ages of 5 and 21.

Is this extra benefit available in my service area?

Extra benefit is available to members in all service areas including Harris, Jefferson, and Northeast service areas.


Sports and School Physicals

Sports / School Physical

Members who have had their Texas Health Steps well-child check-up in the last 12 months will be eligible for one annual sports and school physical completed by their Primary Care Physician (PCP).

How do I claim my extra benefit?

Schedule a doctor’s appointment for your child with your Primary Care Physician (PCP) requesting that a sports or school physical be completed.

How will I receive it?

By calling your primary care doctor and scheduling a sport/school physical appointment for your child.

Who is eligible?

This extra benefit is available to all members enrolled with Texas Children’s Health Plan and are part of the Texas STAR, CHIP, or STAR Kids programs. To qualify for this extra benefit, STAR and CHIP members should be between the ages of 5 and 19, and have completed their annual Texas Health Steps Well Child Check. STAR Kids members are eligible for this extra benefit up to their 21st birthday.

Extra benefit is available to members in all service areas including Harris, Jefferson, and Northeast service areas.


Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Houston

Texas Children’s Health Plan has partnered with the Boys and Girls Clubs. Members are able to participate in their local program and receive a free summer and school year membership.

How do I claim my extra benefit?

Signing up with the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Houston is easy. Visit any Boys and Girls Club location to sign up for your membership.

How will I receive it?

The Boys and Girls Club will initiate your membership after verifying active Texas Children’s Health Plan membership.

Who is eligible?

This extra benefit is available to members enrolled in a Texas Children’s Health Plan program including STAR, CHIP, or STAR Kids and between the ages of 6 and 12. 

Is this extra benefit available in my service area?

Extra benefit is available to members specifically within the Harris service area. Restrictions and limitations may apply.
